An American In Paris
After spending the day editing my film, I've decided there could be nothing better than winding down by with the classic film An American In Paris. It will be my first time watching the movie but after already having watched Singing In The Rain, I know it will be amazing. Starring the fantastic dancer/actor Gene Kelly, I can't wait to see how it turns out.
Hard At Work
Apologies for the inactivity on my blog, but sometimes a girl has to work. Lately I've been working on several projects at once. Yesterday I finally started filming my psychological art thriller. I'm super excited to see how it turns out. Today I'm heading to the lab to begin editing and see how my clips turned out.
When not filming or editing my time is spent in the studio where I'm currently working on my latest painting.
Need A Good Read?
I love books! But more specifically, gorgeous, big, coffee table books! It's hard to resist the urge to buy them when there are just sooo many wonderful ones out there. During Christmas break in Thailand, I found several new ones to add to my collection. I can't wait to read them all!
The books included: 'The Next Generation: Japanese Women Designers, Photographers, and Illustrators', 'Fashion Drawing in Vogue', and 'Avedon 1944-2000 Fashion'.
My pile is growing! Best part, these aren't even all!
Opening of Ullens Latest Exhibition & Switch!
This Saturday I had the pleasure of being a plus one to the opening of new exhibitions at UCCA/Ullens in 798 Art District. The latest addition included Qiu & Ren Hang's photographic exhibition Inner Ear, which showcased two different young Chinese photographers working in significantly different styles. The exhibition displayed some truly unique pieces that inspired a different outlook on both human interactions and self-isolation in the case of Ren Hang's work.

Original photograph taken by: Qiu
Qiu's work consisted of a series of black and white photographs that explored classic photography that featured elements characteristic of film noir. As poetic stills, these images become observations of a world that has become almost unknown to city folk. Pictures of serene trees, skies, butterflies and distant mountains.
Another series of works are that of Ling Jian's Moon in Glass collection, all works purposefully featuring circular shapes in order to create spacial illusions that lead to infinite visual continuity. There were several mirrors within the space that created an interaction between the viewer and viewed works. With meticulous detail and skill applied, the painted canvases become as photographic as that of the printed mirrors.
After drinks at the reception and a tour given by UCCA Director Jérôme Sans, it was time to finish the day with a delicious lunch at Ullens's restaurant Switch! I munched on Rösti with a super fresh salad as well and to beat the cold sipped on my favorite tea, jasmine. It was such an amazing day!
Masquerade
Although prom lies a long time away, I have already begun searching for what accessories to wear. This year's theme will be Phantom of the Opera. I absolutely love that movie so I'm super excited to see how it will turn out! That means I'll be spending an extra long time deciding on what dress I should wear. Perhaps I shall sew something! Anyway, I found this perfect little accessory during my time in the shopping malls of Thailand. It can be worn as a broach or hairclip so I'll have to wait and see what works best.
J-Magazines
Hurray!!! On my latest trip to Thailand I managed to pick up some lovely Japanese magazines. The list included my all-time favorite magazine 'Classy' and some new ones that I decided to try out. I got 'Fudge', 'Numéro Tokyo', and 'Spur'. Yikes, but I've been sooo busy lately that I haven't yet had time to read them :( I can't wait until the weekend, super excited, want to read them now!
A Taste of China
Wanting a taste of a more traditional China, I got it with these beautiful presents. I am seriously loving the beautiful embroidery seen though these handicrafts. The presents included a bookmark with a detailed qí páo, a mini jewellery role decorated with butterflies, perfect for when travelling, and a change purse.
Hot and Dangerous
Hot and dangerous indeed! The clothes could be from none other than the fashion forward store Soda. Dibs on the red outfit!
Filled with plenty of unique and quirky pieces, the styling is certainly something to keep your eyes open for. Not many are daring enough to wear an entire outfit in one color, but it's certainly won me over! My favorite combo is stripes on stripes. However, I've yet to try it out in the critical eye of the public.
Although I already have several chandeliers scattered around the world, I found another one to add to my collection. Have to love the one sported in Kiehl's.
Senor Pico
Last night I partied it up at Senor Pico's. I had some authentic Mexican food with live music playing in the background.
New Year's & Beach Fun
Fun in the sun couldn't be more true than right now. After a long time coming, I am finally taking a well deserved vacation from the fabulous life, recuperating in the sun! Leaving the dreary, cold winter days of Beijing far behind I'm ready to never return until the weather has changed. Yikes, checking the weather, I'm suppossed to be in the misery of -10 to 0 Celcius right now, but have cheated fate by flying to Thailand. Today was somewhere around 33 Celcius, perfection! My pale face has finally begun to get some color.
The trees, leaves and bushes are all beautifully ripe in their fantastic bright green colors. I love palm trees! Having grown up surrounded by them it's hard to resist their inevitable charm, perhaps that's why Los Angeles is my favorite city in the US. Home to the palm trees! However, the air is fresh here, wonderful and warm.
I have even found an island to declare my own! Gorgeous and mysterious resting in its solitude.
The sunset is absolutely amazing here! Painted in its heavenliness, glaring with such intensity.
